A resin filter has a filter cartridge that is made up of resin's and will remove contaminants such as heavy metals which includes lead, as well as minerals that can cause deposits in coffee makers and kettles. Some people will combine a resin filter with an activated carbon filter which will be a very effective filtering system to remove particles and dissolve substances.

One thing all on-tap water filters have in common: it's important to remember to switch the valve on your kitchen tap water filter to bypass the filter when using hot water. Hot water may damage some of the filters components.
